My Beacon

Independent notes for Miami and South Florida trips

About this site

About

My Beacon is a small, independent guide for people planning a trip to Miami, Miami Beach and the rest of South Florida, including the Everglades and the Florida Keys. The notes here try to answer the questions visitors actually have before and during a trip: which part of the beach to base yourself in, how to get from the airport without a car, what to do about your phone, how far the day trips really go, and how heat, storms and the hurricane season change a plan.

Independent, and not a hotel

My Beacon is an independent travel site. It is not affiliated with The Beacon Hotel in Miami Beach or any hotel. We do not take bookings, we do not run lodging, and we do not review or recommend specific hotels. Our Where to Stay section compares areas and neighborhoods so you can decide which one suits your trip.

This web address was used by other websites in the past. Those sites, and any business connected with them, have nothing to do with My Beacon, and we cannot help with anything related to them.

Who writes the notes

The notes are compiled by the My Beacon editors. We do not put invented names or credentials on articles, and we do not write “when we stayed” stories. Each guide is built from public, checkable information and written to be useful whether or not you have been to Miami before. How that works, and where our limits are, is explained on how we make these notes.

What you will not find here

  • Exact prices, fares, opening hours or timetables. They change too often, so we describe them in general terms and point you to the official source.
  • Paid placements or sponsored reviews of hotels, restaurants or tours.
  • Advice that replaces official weather and safety guidance. For that, see weather and safety sources.
